FAQs

A: The cost of kitchen remodeling varies greatly depending on the size of the kitchen, the materials used, and the total scope of the project. However, you can expect to pay anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000(or even higher) for kitchen renovations.

A more cost effective option is a kitchen refresh: instead of new cabinets, maybe new cabinet doors(we can custom make them), or maybe just painting/staining the existing cabinets. Generally a kitchen refresh doesn’t include new titles, but it can be regrouted, so a light grout can be replaced with a dark color, giving it a more modern look. New fixtures, new cabinet knows/handles. A refresh is certainly a great option.

A: The time it takes to complete a kitchen remodeling job varies depending on the size of the job and the experience of the contractor. However, you can expect most kitchen remodeling jobs to take 3-6 weeks to complete.

A Kitchen refresh takes on average 2-3 weeks, sometimes as quick as a coupe days if it is just a small refresh.

A: While every kitchen is unique and one-of-a-kind, most kitchen remodels follow the same general set of steps.

The first step is demoing your kitchen; out with the old to make way for the new. During this phase, our team will essentially clear everything away from the area on which we’ll be working. This could mean pulling the cabinets away from one wall, or gutting the entire room. This could mean taking the walls back to the studs, or even removing part or all of a wall.

But don’t worry – this step isn’t as destructive as it sounds. Cabinets, shelves, and appliances can all be removed without being damaged. As a result, these fixtures can simply be reinstalled once the remodel is complete, or if not being reused, we will donate them to reduce waste in the landfills. We also take every step to reduce dust in the rest of the house during this process, with dust wall barriers, hepa filtering, and such.

Once completed, new drywall can be put up, or existing drywall can be prepped and every affected wall coated with a layer of primer, unless requested otherwise Columbus Home Heroes specifically uses mold/mildew blocking primer since kitchens have water and this minimizes risk.

This will seal the vertical surface, not to mention provide the best blank canvas. However, you’ll want to refrain from decorative painting until just before the cabinets are installed. Between those steps, there’s some heavy lifting to be done and the walls may get scuffed and scratched.

Now that the walls, are taken care of, we can take a look at the floor. Our design specialists can assist you in choosing what floor fits your lifestyle and your taste, from a wide variety of options including linoleum, ceramic, or wood. It is easiest to install new flooring at this step in the process, while the kitchen is still empty and gutted.

Next, we come to the cabinets and countertop. The stylistic possibilities are endless, especially with so many gorgeous, practical options available at many different stores or for a truly one of a kind kitchen, we can custom build them.

Once the cabinets are in place, the backsplash is added. Though it won’t take up a lot of wall space, it will be a defining feature of the room. That’s because backsplashes are like the banners of kitchen design. They catch the eye and make a statement; a statement that you dictate by choosing the right color and material to represent your heart and your home.

Last but not least in our list of remodeling steps, we have appliances. Like the cabinets, you can keep your old stove, dishwasher, fridge, etc., or upgrade your kitchen with newer tech.

There are a few issues faced during a kitchen renovation

  • Cost: Kitchen remodeling can be a costly project. Let’s not pretend otherwise, a kitchen renovation can be costly, Columbus Home Heroes has multiple financing options available to help folks achieve their dream kitchen. If a full remodel isn’t in the budget, let’s discuss a refresh to give your home a nice look while you budget for a full remodel.
  • Time: Kitchen remodeling can take several weeks to complete. Which usually means the kitchen isn’t functional, which means setting up a temporary cooking setup, or lots of take out.
  • Disruption: Kitchen remodeling can be disruptive to your daily life. The disruption is more than not having a comfortable place to cook your food, but it can be noisy, even with every dust control measure in place, you could find a little extra dust in the home, people coming and going through your home.
  • Unforeseen expenses: There may be unforeseen expenses that add to the cost of the project. We build a contingency into every quote, as a budget issue makes for great TV but not a great experience in life. Opening up walls, moving cabinets, and such can identify all kinds of issues from past remodels to hidden issues. We do out best to plan, and will clearly communicate with you along the way to reduce the stress of a renovation project. Sadly, no matter how much we plan for issues, sometimes issues can’t be identified until we strip back what is there.

A: Kitchen remodeling can be a significant investment, but it can also be a great way to improve your home’s value, increase your enjoyment of cooking and entertaining, and make your kitchen more functional and efficient. If your kitchen is outdated, cramped, or inefficient, remodeling can be a great way to improve your quality of life.
