Three Steps to an Accessible and Safe Home
The Columbus Home Heroes approach ensures each client’s unique needs and budget requirements are always met. We’ve broken down this assessment into three steps:
The journey to a safe and accessible home begins with our in-home assessment, a thorough walk-through of your, or your loved one’s, home to evaluate what will be required to create a safe and secure environment based on your unique needs. We focus on three primary areas:
- Mobility inside and outside the house.
- Access to daily needs and hygiene.
- Safety is the top priority in all modifications.
Once we have completed our evaluation, we will explain our approach to your project along with any other renovation or equipment recommendations we may have. We will also review the proper and safe use and upkeep of the modification and equipment. We will work with you and your loved one on our timeline and the budget, discussing all financing options available as needed. Our goal is to make sure the project meets your budget and your timing requirements.
Upon your approval, the Columbus Home Heroes craftsmen will begin, making sure you are satisfied every step of the way. We understand that oftentimes the need to modify a home is immediate. Columbus Home Heroes is prepared to act fast and efficiently to create a safe, accessible, and barrier-free living environment.

When to Begin the Home Modification Process
The best time to start thinking about aging in place and home modifications is long before the need actually arises—which can happen suddenly and urgently. Ideally, people who are confident that they’re living in their “forever home” should factor their long-term care plans into their routine home improvements and repairs.
For example, grab bars are a common addition in seniors’ homes. A homeowner who is updating their bathroom would be wise to ensure there are strong studs or other supports in the right spots for future grab bar installations—even if they don’t want or need them yet. It might also be worth considering replacing a traditional shower/tub with a curbless shower design.
Thinking ahead during renovations and remodels can save headaches, time, and money in the long run. It also allows homeowners to carefully plan and budget for the updates they want now and the modifications they’re likely to need in the future.

The options are unique to everyone’s needs, so feel free to reach out for a consultation.
Q: Are home accessibility estimates free?
A: Estimates for this work provided over the phone(call & text), messenger, or email are free, and usually done for repairs or upgrades to existing home safety items in place. A: Cash and check are preferred methods of payment, but we do accept credit or debit cards direct ACH deposits, Venmo, Zelle, and Cashapp.
